28 Jul Go ahead and look and look and look, but you’re not going to find them out there! (LEO BUSCAGLIA)
We believe that everything there is to find is out there in the light where it’s easy to find, when the only answers for you are in you! Go ahead and look and look and look, but you’re not going to find them out there! Nobody has your answers—only you have your answers. And if you think you can pack up your bag and escape you, you’re in for a mighty big surprise. Run to a mountaintop in Nepal, and when you get over the wonder of being in Nepal, who are you faced with in the mirror? You! With all your hangups, with all your fears, with all your confusion, with all your loneliness, with all the things that you are. So it’s time to begin looking where it makes sense to look. What is essential is not out there. What is essential is indeed in you. But it’s frightening inside and dark, and it’s not easy to search in the dark. And nobody teaches us how. That doesn’t mean you should waste time looking where you will never find it. How many classes did you ever have in your entire educational career that taught you about you? They taught you mathematics, and I’m not saying that that is not essential, but you can live without it. Did you know that? It’s nice to be able to read, but you can also live very joyously without being able to read. I’m not encouraging you not to learn how to read, even though many of you spent years learning how, and now you don’t read anyway. Statistics show that the average university graduate -and this is going to shock you-reads maybe one book a year after graduation.
There are no classes in life, there are no classes in love, there are no classes in “I Am Lonely. What Can I Do? 1A” And when you try to teach these classes, I’swear to you, you are treated like you are some sort of a fool. I’ve been labeled by the media, “The Love Doctor. Good grief! And supposedly one of the greatest honors came to me when I received a letter asking me to appear on “What’s My Line?” I mean it! I swear! “What’s My Line. And the person said “They’ll never guess you!”
Go into a library and gather up all the holy books and sit down and read them for commonalities. How marvelous! There are so many commonalities! Jesus said, “If you want to find life you‟ve got to look inside you. Buddha said it. The Hebraic Holy Books say it. The Koran, The Gita. The Tibetan Book of the Dead, the Tao – they all remind you of this. Trips outside of you are worthless. They are what lead off into the forest where you are going to be lost. If you want answers for you, the answers are inside, not outside.
