Many people choose unhappiness by entertaining these ideas:
\n\u201cToday is a black day; everything is going to go wrong.\u201d
\nI am not going to succeed.\u201d \u201cEveryone is against me.\u201d \u201cBusiness is
\nbad, and it is going to get worse.\u201d \u201cI’m always late.\u201d \u201cI never get the
\nbreaks.\u201d \u201cHe can, but I can’t.\u201d If you have this attitude of mind the
\nfirst thing in the morning, you will attract all these experiences to you,
\nand you will be very unhappy.<\/p>\n
Begin to realize that the world you live in is determined largely by
\nwhat goes on in your mind. Marcus Aurelius, the great Roman
\nphilosopher and sage, said, \u201cA man’s life is what his thoughts make of
\nit.\u201d Emerson, America’s foremost philosopher, said, \u201cA man is what
\nhe thinks all day long.\u201d The thoughts you habitually entertain in your
\nmind have the tendency to actualize themselves in physical conditions.
\nMake certain you do not indulge in negative thoughts, de-featist
\nthoughts, or unkind, depressing thoughts. Recall fre-quently to your
\nmind that you can experience nothing outside your own mentality.<\/p>\n
\u2022 If I had a million dollars, I would be happy
\nI have visited many men in mental institutions who were
\nmillionaires, but they insisted they were penniless and destitute. They
\nwere incarcerated because of psychotic, paranoid, and manicdepressive tendencies. Wealth in and of itself will not make youhappy.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, it is not a deterrent to happiness. Today,
\nthere are many people trying to buy hap-piness through the purchase
\nof radios, television sets, automo-biles, a home in the country, a
\nprivate yacht, and a swimming pool, but happiness cannot be
\npurchased or procured in that way.<\/p>\n
The kingdom of happiness is in your thought and feeling. Too many
\npeople have the idea that it takes something artificial to produce
\nhappiness.<\/p>\n
Some say, \u201cIf I were elected mayor, made president of the
\norganization, promoted to general manager of the corporation, I would
\nbe happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The truth is that happiness is a mental and spiritual state. None of
\nthese positions mentioned will necessarily bequeath happiness. Your
\nstrength, joy, and happiness consist in finding out the law of divine
\norder and right action lodged in your subconscious mind and by
\napplying these principles in all phases of your life.<\/p>\n
