{"id":44029,"date":"2022-05-18T00:02:50","date_gmt":"2022-05-17T21:02:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lecturesbureau.gr\/1\/?p=44029"},"modified":"2022-05-18T13:10:19","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T10:10:19","slug":"2925","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lecturesbureau.gr\/1\/2925\/?lang=en","title":{"rendered":"\u0392efore the rooster crows, you will disown me three times (MATTHEW 26)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span id=\"en-NIV-24086\" class=\"text Matt-26-31\">Jesus Predicts Peter\u2019s Denial<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-26-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus told them,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cThis very night you will all fall away on account of me,\u00a0for it is written:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-05\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Matt-26-31\"><span class=\"woj\">\u201c\u2018I will strike the shepherd,<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"indent-1\"><span class=\"indent-1-breaks\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"text Matt-26-31\"><span class=\"woj\">and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.\u2019<sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NIV-24086a\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NIV-24086a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew%2026%3A31-35&amp;version=NIV#fen-NIV-24086a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"first-line-none top-05\"><span id=\"en-NIV-24087\" class=\"text Matt-26-32\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24088\" class=\"text Matt-26-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>Peter replied, \u201cEven if all fall away on account of you, I never will.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24089\" class=\"text Matt-26-34\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cTruly I tell you,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Jesus answered,\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cthis very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24090\" class=\"text Matt-26-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>But Peter declared, \u201cEven if I have to die with you,\u00a0I will never disown you.\u201d And all the other disciples said the same.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"en-NIV-24112\" class=\"text Matt-26-57\">Jesus Before the Sanhedrin<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-26-57\"><sup class=\"versenum\">57\u00a0<\/sup>Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas\u00a0the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24113\" class=\"text Matt-26-58\"><sup class=\"versenum\">58\u00a0<\/sup>But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest.\u00a0He entered and sat down with the guards\u00a0to see the outcome.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24114\" class=\"text Matt-26-59\"><sup class=\"versenum\">59\u00a0<\/sup>The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin\u00a0were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24115\" class=\"text Matt-26-60\"><sup class=\"versenum\">60\u00a0<\/sup>But they did not find any, though many false witnesses\u00a0came forward.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-26-60\">Finally two\u00a0came forward<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24116\" class=\"text Matt-26-61\"><sup class=\"versenum\">61\u00a0<\/sup>and declared, \u201cThis fellow said, \u2018I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24117\" class=\"text Matt-26-62\"><sup class=\"versenum\">62\u00a0<\/sup>Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, \u201cAre you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24118\" class=\"text Matt-26-63\"><sup class=\"versenum\">63\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus remained silent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-26-63\">The high priest said to him, \u201cI charge you under oath\u00a0by the living God:\u00a0Tell us if you are the Messiah,\u00a0the Son of God.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24119\" class=\"text Matt-26-64\"><span class=\"woj\"><sup class=\"versenum\">64\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cYou have said so,\u201d<\/span>\u00a0Jesus replied.\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cBut I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One\u00a0and coming on the clouds of heaven.\u201d<sup class=\"footnote\" style=\"font-size: 0.625em; line-height: normal; position: relative; vertical-align: text-top; top: auto; display: inline;\" data-fn=\"#fen-NIV-24119e\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NIV-24119e&quot; title=&quot;See footnote e&quot;&gt;e&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+26&amp;version=NIV#fen-NIV-24119e\">e<\/a>]<\/sup><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24120\" class=\"text Matt-26-65\"><sup class=\"versenum\">65\u00a0<\/sup>Then the high priest tore his clothes\u00a0and said, \u201cHe has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24121\" class=\"text Matt-26-66\"><sup class=\"versenum\">66\u00a0<\/sup>What do you think?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-26-66\">\u201cHe is worthy of death,\u201d\u00a0they answered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24122\" class=\"text Matt-26-67\"><sup class=\"versenum\">67\u00a0<\/sup>Then they spit in his face and struck him with their fists.\u00a0Others slapped him<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24123\" class=\"text Matt-26-68\"><sup class=\"versenum\">68\u00a0<\/sup>and said, \u201cProphesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span id=\"en-NIV-24124\" class=\"text Matt-26-69\">Peter Disowns Jesus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-26-69\"><sup class=\"versenum\">69\u00a0<\/sup>Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. \u201cYou also were with Jesus of Galilee,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24125\" class=\"text Matt-26-70\"><sup class=\"versenum\">70\u00a0<\/sup>But he denied it before them all. \u201cI don\u2019t know what you\u2019re talking about,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24126\" class=\"text Matt-26-71\"><sup class=\"versenum\">71\u00a0<\/sup>Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, \u201cThis fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24127\" class=\"text Matt-26-72\"><sup class=\"versenum\">72\u00a0<\/sup>He denied it again, with an oath: \u201cI don\u2019t know the man!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24128\" class=\"text Matt-26-73\"><sup class=\"versenum\">73\u00a0<\/sup>After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, \u201cSurely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NIV-24129\" class=\"text Matt-26-74\"><sup class=\"versenum\">74\u00a0<\/sup>Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, \u201cI don\u2019t know the man!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Matt-26-74\">Immediately a rooster crowed.<\/span>\u00a0<span id=\"en-NIV-24130\" class=\"text Matt-26-75\"><sup class=\"versenum\">75\u00a0<\/sup>Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken:\u00a0<span class=\"woj\">\u201cBefore
