The IYI subscribes to The New Yorker, a journal designed so philistines can learn to fake a conversation about evolution,<\/p>\n
neurosomething, cognitive biases, and quantum mechanics. He
\nnever curses on social media. He speaks of \u201cequality of races\u201d and
\n\u201ceconomic equality,\u201d but never goes out drinking with a minority
\ncab driver (again, no real skin in the game, as, I will repeat until I
\nam hoarse, the concept is fundamentally foreign to the IYI). The
\nmodern IYI has attended more than one TED talk in person or
\nwatched more than two TED talks on YouTube.<\/p>\n
The IYI mistakes the Near East (ancient Eastern Mediterranean)
\nfor the Middle East.
\nThe IYI has a copy of the first hardback edition of The Black
\nSwan on his shelf, but mistakes absence of evidence for evidence
\nof absence. He believes that GMOs are \u201cscience,\u201d that their
\n\u201ctechnology\u201d is in the same risk class as conventional breeding.
\nTypically, the IYI get first-order logic right, but not second-
\norder (or higher) effects, making him totally incompetent in
\ncomplex domains.<\/p>\n
The IYI joins a club to get travel privileges; if he is a social
\nscientist, he uses statistics without knowing how they are derived
\n(like Steven Pinker and psycholophasters in general); when in the
\nUnited Kingdom, he goes to literary festivals and eats cucumber
\nsandwiches, taking small bites at a time; he drinks red wine with
\nsteak (never white); he doesn\u2019t know that there is no difference between
\n\u201cpseudointellectual\u201d and \u201cintellectual\u201d in the absence of skin in
\nthe game; he has mentioned quantum mechanics at least twice in
\nthe past five years in conversations that had nothing to do with
\nphysics.
\nThe IYI likes to use buzzwords from philosophy of science
\nwhen discussing unrelated phenomena; he goes two or three levels
\ntoo theoretical for a given problem.<\/p>\n
