\n(Tragedies, sorrows, laughter, tears\u2014O heaven!
\nThe passionate, teeming plays this curtain hid!)
\nThis glaze of God\u2019s serenest, purest sky,
\nThis film of Satan\u2019s seething pit,
\nThis heart\u2019s geography\u2019s map\u2014this limitless small continent\u2014this soundless sea;
\nOut from the convolutions of this globe,
\nThis subtler astronomic orb than sun or moon\u2014than Jupiter, Venus, Mars;
\nThis condensation of the Universe\u2014(nay, here the only Universe,
\nHere the IDEA\u2014all in this mystic handful wrapt;)
\nThese burin\u2019d eyes, flashing to you, to pass to future time,
\nTo launch and spin through space revolving, sideling\u2014from these to emanate,
\nTo You, whoe\u2019er you are\u2014a Look.<\/p>\n

Oh me! Oh life! of the questions of these recurring,

\nOf myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?)
\nOf eyes that vainly crave the light, of the objects mean, of the struggle ever renew\u2019d,
\nOf the poor results of all, of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me,
\nOf the empty and useless years of the rest, with the rest me intertwined,
\nThe question, O me! so sad, recurring\u2014What good amid these, O me, O life?<\/p>\n
