Hesperus, under the arc of your golden flame<\/p>\n
I know the night no longer that is a night only.<\/p>\n
AEGEAN MELANCHOLY<\/p>\n
What coherence of soul amid the halcyons of the afternoon!<\/p>\n
And what windcalm amid the cries of distant shoresl<\/p>\n
The cuckoo-bird amid the veil of trees<\/p>\n
And the mystic moment of the fishermen\u2019s supper<\/p>\n
And the sea that upon its accordion plays<\/p>\n
The distant languor of a woman<\/p>\n
The beautiful one who bared her breasts<\/p>\n
As memory entered into the nests<\/p>\n
And lilacs showered the sunset with fire!<\/p>\n
With a small boat, with the sails of the Madonna
\nThey left, and with the well-wishes of the winds,<\/p>\n
All those who loved the lilies\u2019 sojourn in foreign shores.<\/p>\n
But how the night here has warbled sleep
\nWith gurgling hair upon gleaming necks
\nAnd upon vast white seashores
\nAnd how the dust of maiden dreams
\nFragrant with spearmint and basil
\nWas scattered and foamed on high
\nBy the golden sabre of Orion!
\nOn crossroads where the ancient sorceress stood<\/p>\n
Setting the winds aflame with dry thyme<\/p>\n
Lightly stepped the slender shadows<\/p>\n
Each holding a jug immured with muted water<\/p>\n
Easily as if they were going into Paradise<\/p>\n
And from the cricket\u2019s prayers that foamed upon the fields<\/p>\n
