{"id":17942,"date":"2016-06-08T23:58:38","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T20:58:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lecturesbureau.gr\/1\/?p=17942&#038;lang=en"},"modified":"2020-10-11T10:03:34","modified_gmt":"2020-10-11T07:03:34","slug":"the-empty-boat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lecturesbureau.gr\/1\/the-empty-boat\/?lang=en","title":{"rendered":"The empty boat (JORGE BUCAY)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Your boat is tied up at the waterfront and you see your neighbour return from fishing in the river.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">He is paddling with his back to the shore, and he doesn&#8217;t notice that his boat goes straight over to yours.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">You shout but he doesn&#8217;t hear you.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">His bow goes straight towards your small boat.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">You shout, you bang the pier,you clap&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">But nothing&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Eventually, the boat collides with your own and causes serious damage to the wood and paint of the bow.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">You lose your temper, you curse him, you protest and you want to hit him&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The next day, while looking at the river again, you realize that the current has cut off the ropes of another neighbour&#8217;s boat and it is drifted towards your direction.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Again looking at your boat which is tied up at the waterfront,you try with a wood to avoid the collision, but you did not quite manage it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Eventually, the boat collides with your own one again today.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The damage to your boat is the same as it was yesterday .<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">This time, however, you do not curse anyone, you do not get angry alsmost at all, you do not want to beat anyone &#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The first clear conclusion we can draw is that the first time you did not go mad about the collision; you went mad because there was someone in the boat to get angry with him.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">If then and the other boat were empty, you\u00a0would have escaped from anger.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Having this discovery in mind, the reasoning that follows is that: if somebody offends you, you get angry. With whom do you get angry? And why?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">It is true that a curse always brings another insult.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">You remember all those that insulted you once.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">And this infuriates you more.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">But with whom do you get angry? And why?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Next time stay silent. Consciously.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Anger looks at everything through the light of the past, it \u201creheats\u201d cancellations and it rekindles old battles that we had against our helplessness.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Break the shackles from the past and do not get angry.
